Multidisciplinary Team Coordination and Case Review
Case review is an important component of the work done at the Children's Advocacy Center. It refers to the process by which multidisciplinary team members come together to review and discuss cases of child abuse and neglect that have been referred to the CAC.
The goal of case review is to ensure that child abuse cases are handled in a coordinated, effective, and child-centered manner. During case review, team members from various disciplines, such as law enforcement, child protective services, mental health professionals, and prosecution, review the case to ensure that:
The child's safety and well-being are the top priority.
The child has received necessary medical care and forensic evaluation.
The child and family have access to appropriate services and support, such as mental health counseling, medical care, and family advocacy.
The case is being investigated thoroughly and all necessary steps are being taken to identify and hold accountable the perpetrator(s) of the abuse.
Case review is typically conducted on a monthly basis at the Children’s Advocacy Center, within the communities and jurisdictions we serve. The team members involved in case review work collaboratively to share information, identify gaps in services or investigation, and develop a coordinated plan to ensure that the child and family receive the support and care they need.
By engaging in case review, the Children’s Advocacy Center can help to ensure that child abuse cases are handled in a comprehensive and effective manner, and that child abuse victims and their families receive the support and resources they need to heal and recover from the trauma of abuse.
