Cook-Off on the Colorado 2010

Oooohhh! What Spooky Fun we'll have at the fourth annual Children's Advocacy Center's Cook-off on the Colorado 2010. The IBCA sanctioned contest will take place Saturday, October 30, 2010, with check-in and pre cook-off activities Friday, October 29, at Mayfest Park, Bastrop, Texas.

Thanks to you, last year's cook-off again exceeded the previous year and allowed the Center to expand our counseling services.

WHEN: Saturday, October 30, 2010
WHERE: Mayfest Park, Bastrop, Texas (map)
CHECK IN: Friday, October 29, 12 NOON to 7 PM
(Vacate Sunday by Noon)
ENTRY FEE: Barbecue: $100 per team (Any or all categories)
Jackpot Beans, Dutch Oven Desserts, Pies: $10 per entry
Friday Nite Margarita Mix-Off, Jalapeno Grill-Off, Saturday Bloody Mary Contest: $20 per entry
CATEGORIES: BBQ: Brisket, Pork Spare Ribs (no baby backs), 1/2 Chicken, Anything But:
1st $400, 2nd $300, 3rd $200, 4th 100, 5th $75, trophies 1st -3rd, ribbons

Jackpot Pinto Beans, Margaritas, Jalapenos, Bloody Marys:
Cash award 1st place (50% of pot), trophies 1st thru 3rd

Dutch Oven Desserts, Pies (fruit or nut):
Adult - Cash award 1st place (50% of pot) each category, trophies 1st each category plus Grand Champion;
Kids - trophies 1st thru 5th each category


Grand Champion for BBQ & Showmanship awards will be given.

COOK-OFF ON THE COLORADO
2010 "Event Angel" Volunteer Opportunities

Children's Advocacy Center volunteers need to be at least 18 years of age. Volunteers who want to help with kids' activities must consent to a criminal background check.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 29 - Two-hour shifts
  • SET-UP - 5-6 people. Bring some friends and watch the time fly - and be a guest for the rest of the event, growing you helped make it a success!
  • REGISTRATION - 2 per shift. Sign up with a friend to welcome our cook-off teams to this fantastic IBCA-sanctioned event.
  • GUIDES - 4 per shift. Help walk our great cook-off teams to their reserved locations.
  • TICKET SALES - 2 per shift. Stand in the shade and sell tickets for food, drinks and kids' activities.
  • BURGERS & BEER- 4 people. Serving up burgers and cold beer (TABC certified preferred). Perfect for those who love to grill!
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30 - Two-hour shifts
  • KIDS' ACTIVITIES - 10-12 per shift. Help children safely enjoy putt-putt golf, giant slide, moon bounce, petting zoo and much more.
  • SANDWICH & DRINK SALES - 3 per shift. Yummy, messy BBQ beef sandwiches and cold beer and drinks raise great money for the Center and its programs!
  • PIE JUDGES - 5 needed. Like pie? Sign up today to help choose the best entries in the fruit, nut and custard categories.
  • TICKET SALES - 2 per shift. Stand in the shade and sell tickets for food, drinks and kids' activities.
  • RAFFLE TICKETS & GUEST SURVEYS - Perfect for those who like to talk to strangers!
  • CLEAN-UP - Get the inside scoop on everything that happened at the event while helping the Center tidy up the park!
